BE ACTIVE AT WORK, NOT LAZY AND BE COMMITTED
BS FOAD ,M.D. 2008
What we get of our life is our deeds: good or bad
“ On the day when He will gather them, and it will be as if they only remained
But an hour of a day “ Yunus 10 : 45
Islam encourages us to work hard and not be lazy
“ And say: Work and do good deeds: soon will Allah observe your work, and His
Messenger, and the believers “ At-Tawba 9 : 105
Ubada Bin As-Samit said: We gave our allegiance to prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) to obey at times of difficulty and times of ease; when we are active or tired; and whether someone else is favored; and not to deny or compete against those who deserve ( to rule over Muslims ); and to say the truth at all times not afraid of blame ) Bokhari & Muslim.
Prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) said: ( It is better for one of you to cut wood and carry it on his back, become self-sufficient and give charity, than asking another person who may or may not give him, for the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those whom you support ) Bokhari & Muslim
Ethics of work
Honesty and capability “ One of the two girls said: “ O my father hire him, for the best person to hire is the most capable, trust-worthy “ Al-Qasas 28 : 26
Doing the work to our best ability: Prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) said :
( Allah loves for each one of you to do his work to the best of his ability ) Baihaqi
Planning and organization : “ Joseph said: You plant abundantly for seven years, but the harvest you reap you shall leave in the ear except for a little of what you eat. Then will come seven dreadful years which will devour what you have prepared except for a little of what you have specially guarded “ Yusuf 12: 47 & 48
What will prompt us to be active and not lazy ?
Faith and commitment : Those who believe understand their accountability to Allah and watch their behavior, in contrast to those who have no faith:
“ The reason that the hypocrite’s charities are not accepted is that they reject Allah and His messenger, and they only come to prayer lazy, and they spend only when they are forced to “ At-Tawba 9 : 54
Safeguarding our prayers : Prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) said : ( Satan places three knots on the back of your head when you go to sleep, saying : “ You have a long night, therefore sleep”. If you wake up and remember Allah, one of the knots is loosened; if you do ablution, the second knot is loosened; if you pray the third knot loosens, then you wake up refreshed feeling good; otherwise, you wake up feeling bad and lazy ) Bokhari & Muslim after Abou Horaira.
Prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) sought protection from laziness
He said in his Du’a : ( O Allah I seek protection in You from disability and laziness; and from cowardliness and covetousness; and from old age and the suffering of the grave. O Allah give my soul its righteousness, and purify it )
Bokhari after Zaid Bin Arqam
